Imagine the uproar had Pete Buttigieg NOT fired a police chief who believed in, and sanctioned, illegal wiretaps.

The black police chief is one of his many blind spots. He also does not appoint/hire black people (40% of the SB population).

The black police chief believed in and sanctioned illegal wiretapping. He should’ve been fired and jailed. He had no business being in an American police force while embracing criminal tactics.

Exactly. The color of his skin has nothing to do with his actions, which by the way were illegal. Two wrongs do not make a right. He had to be fired because he broke laws. That’s the big picture!

Your image from the cnn/google page also notes at the bottom that some of the recordings did not violate IN wiretap law. Like the fed law, it’s one party consent, so doesn’t seem as clear cut as your portraying it.

Doesn't "one party consent" means one party in the conversation? The chief maintained an equipement recordings conversations between the cops and other people. No party in the conversation consented to be recorded.

then why does the posted excerpt say that some of the recordings didn't violate state wiretap law? If the chief did violate the law then the city was foolish to pay him a settlement, because they'd have a clear nondiscriminatory and nonpretextual reason for firing him.

Some of the recordings were not illegal because it was an accident. But in February 2011 an employee discovered the bug, she listened the recordings and told the chief who told her to keep the wiretap. Many months later a cop became aware of the wiretap and told them to stop.

We have a president right now who tolerates dishonesty and legally questionable behavior from his appointees. I want a president who does not tolerate that behavior and who will do what is right for the long term instead of what is popular in the short term. #PeteforAmerica

2/2 Pete isn’t just writing policy, he implements, budgets, monitors, managers & improves upon policy daily. Who in the current field can equal that? Inslee, Booker, Klobuchar, Castro, Warren (CFPB), Harris, Messum, Hickenlooper, & Bernie. I’ll give Yang & Delaney business Cred.

Actually several can and have done it on a far larger scale. Inslee as governor, Harris as CA AG and US Senator, and Warren as both Senator and before that as architect of the CFPB which has helped countless Americans.
