GL doesn't support them AFAIK, D3D/Metal/Vulkan all support slice-wise 3D BCn compression. Worse still if you are on nvidia it will auto-activate some extensions that do kind of 3D-wise compression and throw weird behaviour: https://www.khronos.org/registry/OpenGL/extensions/NV/NV_texture_compression_vtc.txt …

Twitter wisdom! In OpenGL, should compressed *3D* textures with S3TC (aka DXT) formats work? Can't quite get them to work (works in D3D/Metal/Vulkan fine). The S3TC spec seems to imply they should not work (https://www.khronos.org/registry/OpenGL/extensions/EXT/EXT_texture_compression_s3tc.txt …), but no such errors as in spec.
