Are people willing to pay for the ethical alternatives? This seems to be the problem with all of the ethical Facebook alts.
After several attempts like "I have 50 bucks", Diaspora, I forget all the other alternatives, I have the impression that most people are "happy" with Facebook.
@jtashea people shouldn't have to pay to be using alternatives, in contrast they should get paid by the companies that are promoting their content. Split the revenue with the interface platform et voila a (more) ethical buisinessmodel
Sure, I keep hearing this idea get pushed, but I’m not seeing it implemented at scale. Why is that?
Perhaps the lack of platforms that have a sufficient number of active users to be interesting for companies to advertise on..
We are investigating that path - Using Findx search (in the Brave browser) both we as a platform and the publisher in our video search will be rewarded from the users wallet - overtime the user can fill the wallet by whatching payed content/ads- morehttps://get.findx.com/blog/findx-is-now-a-private-search-engine-in-the-brave-browser/ …
<raises hand> Doing the latter.
I don't like Facebook's business model. But my friends and acquantainces are on Facebook and 99% of them are not on any ethical alternative. Beating Facebook is very difficult, mostly because "do sth about being farmed" is not high on the average person's priorities. Hard truth.
Second option of course. Happy to pay for that too
People pay for Netflix, after all. I'd pay a couple bucks/month for an alternative without farming
