Please, please, please do your research before questioning him so we don’t end up with a repeat of the shambles we had at the US Congress. Articles: https://ar.al/notes/the-nature-of-the-self-in-the-digital-age … https://ar.al/notes/encouraging-individual-sovereignty-and-a-healthy-commons/ … https://www.wired.co.uk/article/aral-balkan-ethical-design-cyborgs … http://www.wired.co.uk/article/is-the-internet-broken-how-to-fix-it …https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/feb/01/punk-rock-internet-diy-rebels-working-replace-tech-giants-snoopers-charter …
TL; DR: Please, at the very least ask him about Facebook’s business model and how he can give any assurances of protecting privacy when Facebook’s bottom line is directly linked to how well they can violate your privacy and monetise the intimate insights they gain into your life.
At the very least ask him about the tracking that Facebook carries out across with the web with their like buttons and pixel tags. Ask them about what data they buy from third parties. Ask them about shadow profiles for people who’ve never even signed up for Facebook.
And, please, let the words “surveillance capitalism” be uttered at least once at the event so we know that we’re not ignoring the elephant in the room: that this a systemic problem with how Silicon Valley tech is funded and built and the success criteria of that system.
And if you want to go beyond that, maybe even raise the topic that tech can be built differently: funded by the commons for the common good. Or, at the very least, without surveillance-based business models.
