Is the issue that they use Google Cliud services for storage? I’m guessing the licence/contract for the storage says they can’t read/use that data. If that’s true, is there an issue with it being provided by Google?

Oh, sure, if it’s end to end encrypted & we have auditable means of proving no data collection or profiling are being carried out by Alphabet, Inc., that’s fine. Although, again, you’re financially supporting an entity whose business model is based on doing all those things.

Do you not think a contract saying they wont use it is enough? They’re happy to collect according to their privacy policy, but they dont seem to breach contracts to do it? Also arguably, youre providing an alternate source of funding that makes them less reliant on current model

Yes, they’re a factory farm that sells WWF merchandise in their gift store. That’s cool; as long as you know it goes to fund the factory farm. Regarding the contract: without algorithmic transparency you have no way of auditing the contract.

Apple is moving it’s cloud storage to Google. They claim though that it is encrypted and Google cannot access the information... :/

Obviously if the contract doesn’t say that, that’s a huge issue, but for business services I’d be surprised if there wasn’t something to that effect.
