Apple uses proprietary software to restrict users freedom to run any program they wish. Any program run on iOS devices has to be approved by Apple. https://stallman.org/apple.html

Apple licenses their products to their users they don’t sell them. This is made clear by Apple’s attempts to restrict the user’s ability to repair their products without first going through Apple.
