Was looking at televisions today and saw that @sony’s Bravia televisions come with built-in surveillance courtesy of Google Android.
Won’t be getting one of those then (shame, the picture quality and sound are amazing. But nothing’s worth having spyware in your living room).

Anyone know how
@panasonic televisions compare in terms of privacy? I read they use a Firefox OS variant (means nothing, of course, but at least it’s not Google Android TV). (The picture on the Panasonic OLEDs are rather amazing also.)https://twitter.com/aral/status/988156340853006336 …Aral Balkan added,

LG OLED is also non-Android based https://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1506590109 … webOS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebOS , haven't studied any privacy policies, though.

Have an LG projector with WebOS. Doesn’t require a connection to function. The Apple-recommended LG monitor I have for my computer has terrible ghosting though so vary of LG screens.

Don’t we all just want a dumb rectangular screen that does nothing but getting fed pretty pictures? I don’t want to buy anything “smart”.

Alas, what we want, what we’re told we want, and what we get are usually all different things :)
