In a few weeks GDPR will come into force. It’ll strengthen privacy of European citizens online.We need further assurances beyond Zuckerberg’s testimony on exactly how Facebook will implement it.Europeans deserve full transparency on how their data are usedhttp://www.wired.co.uk/article/facebook-mark-zuckerberg-congress-testimony-cambridge-analytica-gdpr-privacy …

You may be reading a bit too much in this statement.
-
It’s as clear a call for full algorithmic transparency as I can imagine. There is no other way to provide what
@guyverhofstadt passionately (& rightly) asked for. -
European citizens can not be expected to understand algorithms. It has to actually go beyond that...
-
Algorithmic transparency isn’t for the citizens, it’s for the regulators. Imagine if Facebook had to release all their algorithms.
-
Fair point. Yet, the data science knowledge required is scarce and public sector pays such that regulators will have a hard time with it.

That’s ok and can be fixed. Let’s see what’s going on in the factory farm and if anyone has trouble interpreting the machinery, we can get them the necessary training. No reason not to inspect the factory farm.

An analogy with food safety comes to mind.
