Unless we’re gonna pay for our web browsers, how else are we going to fund Firefox and the ilk? Its all well and good to blame companies like Firefox, but we all were demanding the free lunch.

(a) We’re not going to fund multibillion-dollar Silicon Valley public relations & lobbying vehicles like Mozilla (b) We are going to fund from the commons small, independent organisations to create ethical decentralised, free/open, interoperable alternatives for the common good.

Do you think Mozilla deserves some nuance in that it does not generate revenue from surveillance capitalism itself? Bill Gates made billions anti-competitively, but the ebola fighting NGOs he donated millions to would not be considered "in bed" with extreme capitalism by most ppl

they have received money, but as far as I'm aware they're not collecting data, so I wouldn't call it hypocrisy. That being said, it would be nice if the isolation was not limited to one bad actor
