Hmm, it’s 2018… given what we know, do you really want to work for a titan of surveillance capitalism to make products to track, analyse & profile people with the purpose of exploiting that intimate insight into their lives for financial gain? (Same business model as Facebook.)https://twitter.com/Paul_Kinlan/status/978323081180696576 …

And if you still need convincing, take a few minutes out of your day and watch my talk titled “Design or Decoration?” from IxDA Berlin: https://vimeo.com/243516363 It might change your mind.

It’s quite satisfying to tell a Google recruiter “I strongly disagree with your business model”. They leave you alone after that

Doing this right now, by refusing to implement GA for a client. They're asking for 'proof' of the fact that it's harmful, though. Any links, anyone?

You should show them
@PiwikPro or Piwik if they want privacy friendly analytics. -
I recommended Piwik to a client this morning

In your opinion, is the main issue the profiling or the exploitation? Are there nuances? What about profiling a larger population to tailor to their needs?
-
One example could be optimizing a product based on usage data. Another would be a politician tailoring his/her speech to suit the audience. One is clearly for the benefit of the tracked while the other falls on the exploiting end of the spectrum.
