So, to take it further, the solution isn’t for Facebook to fix things. It’s to regulate Facebook and fund ethical alternatives from the commons. Neither of which are conclusions you would reach if starting from the assumptions originally presented. Hence, moot, yes.

I think your solution might be a good one. For other problems we face. I'm just not sure it's a solution to the problem addressed in the article: how to curb the spread of misinformation on high scale information platforms that people mistake for a reliable source of journalism.
