By the way, “I prefer to say, ‘Big brother is helping you’” is a line you should probably never utter unless you’re Gary Oldman playing the archvillain in a gritty sci-fi dystopia.https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2018/mar/01/smart-cities-data-privacy-eindhoven-utrecht …

The Dutch also have adopted the misconception that paying in cash is for criminals. “Normal” People should use cards, and it’s getting harder to get around using cash.
-
Tell me about it. Hugely disconcerting (The Handmaid’s Tale has the removal of cash as a primary factor that enables autocratic rule and the subjugation of women to be implemented almost overnight.)
-
Removing physical cash without a decentralised electronic alternative is prelude to oppression. CC

Of course, there are outliers everywhere. I should know ;) But e.g., City of Amsterdam, the tech community in general (The Next Web, etc.) would have to shave their heads and don frocks if they worshipped any harder at the altar of Silicon Valley. Will check out the event page.
