To be clear: I love the idea of smart cities (and smart everything!). There's so much possibility for improving people's lives. But it's not worth giving up personal freedoms for, or allowing the proliferation of prejudice and division.

What we wish for matters: a “smart city” is a panopticon. It’s the city (local government and its corporate partners getting smarter about you). We should be funding/building platforms that encourage smart _citizens_. Where people get smarter about themselves & their environment.
