That’s up to us to decide. It depends on whether we can learn to act in our own self-interests as a species and exert our individual sovereignty or whether we resign ourselves to subservience to a sociopathic construct of our own design.

AI, Big Data and robots are all tools. We decide through the construct of our laws how much power they exert over society. As such, you've left the most important tool out: government. If we are not wise and implement limitations to such power, all those tools will be abused.

All tools are owned by someone. So who owns and controls them? If all our modern tools—& the insight they provide about us—are owned and controlled by corporations, we have a feudalism. By individuals, a democracy. Role of govt to regulate abuses & fund the commons is essential.

This is why representative republics are superior to democracies. Mobs are democracies. It is not corps which have committed genocide, it is govts-which is why govt is the most powerful tool of all, whether wielded by an individual, like Jong Un, or by corporate lobbyists.

Professor of Robotics & Ethics. [Alan Mayfield from memory] asked what the biggest threat was re Automation Answer: people think in terms of science fiction & robots taking over the world. But. In reality it’s #Inequality.

But that would mean criticising the rich! Haven’t you heard about the saintly concept of trickle down economics? This is the best system we’ve got. Everything else is Stalinism, red army parades and Gulags. Consume and thee shall be free!

I don't think it's that simple. Yes, you break open a corporation, you find a big pile of humans -- but the diffusion of responsibility down the org chart (not to mention massive financial power) allows actions that no one has to claim. Just the logic of not losing one's job.

& corps vs alternative ways society might choose to organise nexuses of power. There's a character in Iain Banks's multiverse novel "Transition" who's traveled in many timelines & remarks that what the dystopias have in common is they legislate for limited liability companies.

Dude. Corporations are people. So it’s the old ‘people vs people’ story again. Always was, always will be (hopefully). AI, capital, atm at my back, it doesn’t change - the dynamics, situation and outcomes do, but human interactions remain. Some good, some bad, many indifferent.

Corporations want to stay in charge, make mega bucks, have laws and treaties written for them, and keep smaller businesses from growing bigger and challenging them. Of course, they don't like big government--it's a threat to their dominance.

And what is so surprising to the next conclusion: The whole life is about people vs people. It has always been. It will ever be. There are always some people, who think theirselves cleverer than all other. And they live upon all our backs.
