Dude, chill, I liked a tweet. I use likes as bookmarks/reading list. If I want to share something I’d retweet or quote it.
That said, this now guarantees that I’ll actually read @abrkn’s post in full. If you have a post refuting his arguments, please send, I’ll read that too.https://twitter.com/visualio/status/962478339343691776 …

@abrkn The last ten years of history of Bitcoin and its enteurage have been pretty undignified, tbh. Append-only lists may be useful. Blockchains I'm not so sure - especially when PoW is involved. -
Yeah, Secure Scuttlebutt and DAT are good examples of append-only lists in the wild but they have their issues (no deletion, for example, which is a social use case).

For deletion or editing you can have a cancelling transaction

I think it's probably more like 99% will fail. 90% of startups fail. Add in a frontier technology and your numbers are pretty screwed whatever you do. And yes, in the unregulated grey zone with $$$-tech you have tons of outright scams.
-
I think there is a strong analogy here with the Dotcom bubble. That you have real innovation mixed with scams and impossible dreams. It will bubble and pop and then the real value gets delivered. Also worth noting that blockchain is just part of DLT, part of decentralization.
-
Value will be created in all parts of this landscape. Different applications will benefit from different approaches. Blockchain maximalism sucks. Decentralization maximalism sucks. No silver bullet. Just more tools.
-
My own involvement in blockchain has never been motivated by money. My investment has been my time and energy, not $$$. I want to build a fairer world where money is significantly less important. This is very atypical, though, I know!https://bobsummerwill.com/conflict-of-interests-statement/ …
