Can't the World have more than one concurrent goal?

It can, of course. Flamethrowers for everyone, I say! And if we can get rich people to not be hampered by public transportation while we’re at it, all the better. The billionaires will save us, no doubt ;)

Flying to mars seems more reasonable than spending it on another war...

True dat.

Am I the only one who thinks that
#ElonMusk's#TeslaInSpace was a rather egocentric, self aggrandizing move? It's like a male, overcompensating ego jerked off all over space.

Aral, I get your stance on Google, Facebook & all corporations, but maybe take a step back and read up a bit about Elon...
-
Have done.

This is a ridiculous statement. Why does it fall on Elon to ''feed humanity''...flamethrowers were a PR stunt. He runs a private company that has credible intentions.

Clearly the main purpose was not to send a car into Mars orbit. This is PR. You are missing the bigger picture here > Interplanetary life.

If billionaires having private access to deep space isn't a sign of massive inequality I don't know what is.

It was a test, there would have been a payload anyway. Space X is a commercial venture that will no doubt cover it’s costs in satellite launches, ISS trips and so on. Two of the boosters were on their second trip and landed instead of burning up. It made people who dream smile

As I see it, he's made his money and spent it as he chooses. This project isn't just for himself it's for science, something that interests him. On a smaller scale it's like saying I shouldn't buy myself them new trainers and actually give the money to a homeless man instead

Can't blame him for going for the easier problem. "Solving" hunger and homelessness is immensely more difficult: it's the problem of awareness, values and organization. The solution also must be sustainable. He's way too small to even start thinking of tackling this.

Do you think we will have a Tesla Eclipse? I cannot find a verified orbit anywhere..

Starvation is mostly a poltical issue, NOT a money issue. The regions it happens are often fertile. Silly wars between ethnic groups are the reason. So it‘s ridiculous to demand him to stop people from fighting each other.
