I hear your frustration. The problem is that we’re doing the equivalent of asking factory farms to be kinder. Their fundamental—hugely profitable—business model is an abusive, extractive one. They can’t _be_ kinder without altering it. So we end up asking them to appear kinder.

A way forward is not to ask but force these companies to curb their abusive behaviour (regulate them) while incentivising ethical alternatives (see https://ind.ie/ethical-design ) funded via the commons for the common good.
