Today is apparently #DataPrivacyDay, so here goes:
There is no such thing as “data privacy”, there is privacy.
Data doesn’t have rights, people have a human right to privacy.
Your data belongs to you & is a part of you. Data about people is people.

It's a new type of commodification of the self. Not the physical self but the psychological self.
-
Psychological commodification makes social systems easier to instrumentalize
-
The instrumentalized social system is "flexible" in the capitalistic sense. It permits modular orchestration of capital flow
-
When psychology is opaque to capital this eliminates the competitive margin

Yes, but a rights discourse re our data is a dead end bc it leads to calls for us to "control" our own data, to voluntarily enter into personal data markets. The only thing worse than being commodified is self-commodification
