Uhm, well. They at least keep most of the information on their phones and if it goes to the cloud it is encrypted. I think it’s better for Chinese to have the possibility of Apple’s privacy than only state-own companies or Android where all bets are off. It’s a hard compromise.

Yet they’re not getting the same platform in China. eg., you can’t use a VPN on your iPhone. Terrible precedent and most likely the thin edge of the wedge.

I honestly have no idea, but probably. That goes for each and every one of us that continues to buy Chinese goods, though.

It’s worse for non-Americans. At least US citizens within the US are theoretically protected from snooping on, while the rest of the world don’t have any local tech companies so have to carry around devices that have no protections to spy on them

Do you believe that Chinese citizens do not deserve to have the ability to buy and use iPhones? I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but I’m having trouble thinking of a realistic alternative outcome.

Apple believes whatever you pay them to believe :) I would bet that if it wasn't in their interest in some way that we are not aware of they wouldn't care for your privacy or anybodies for that matter

Do click the “learn more” button at the bottom on that screen. It lets to a complete detail of their data usage for each app/service, explained comprehensively but clearly, with associated instructions on how to opt out.
