A. Facebook’s business is adtech, not advertising; let’s not confuse the two. Adtech is based on surveillance. Advertising doesn’t have to be.
B. You can’t fix adtech, it is unethical by design. You can only regulate it, like the tobacco industry.

Well, let’s put it this way: no top student graduates university hoping they’ll work at Philip Morris and no doctors appear in tobacco ads these days. And in most civilised areas, smoking is forbidden in public places. A far cry from the Madmen era.
