As much as I respect your quest for privacy, I still think that your support for Apple kind of contrasts it. Any public company will turn on their customers on a dime when they think they can get away with it or when profits are down.

And that’s why the only reason I trust Apple on this is because I trust they will not throw away an absolute competitive advantage over Google, etc.: https://ar.al/notes/apple-vs-google-on-privacy-a-tale-of-absolute-competitive-advantage … Is Apple a long-term solution? No. A good stopgap in the sewer of surveillance we are in? Probably :)

Not fair, they are fully open-source and also make Firefox Focus and are planning to block canvas fingerprinting in Firefox 58. If Mozilla Firefox disappears we are all stuck with Google Chrome or Opera.

Mozilla gets what from Google 300 million? Apple gets 3 billion from Google, there's your privacywashing.
-
You’re not getting it: you take Google’s $3B away from Apple and Apple is still happily here tomorrow and in ten years. You take Google’s >$300M away from Mozilla and Mozilla is bankrupt tomorrow. That’s what being entirely funded by adtech and
#SurveillanceCapitalism means. -
Mozilla needs the money and they take it from any one who is willing to give it to them, now it's Google, next year can be someone else. Apple doesn't need the money from Google, but why are they taking it year after year?
-
They are very transparent about it. If you don't trust their browser install one of their derivatives, like Waterfox, Pale Moon, SeaMonkey, IceCat,.. It's also the only browser besides Edge that doesn't use Blink. We need diversity.

That's very cruel to an org that truly does care, is nfp and has a huge global grass roots community...

I agree it's worrying to see GG&co. sponsoring Mozilla But concretely: 1. Is there any data leaking from FF that we cannot control? 2. Is there a better alternative?
