To what degree can Infrastructure in this low/zero growth post-industrial be “ethical” and to what standard?
-
-
-
Ethical as in not being based on the business model of farming you for your data / profiling you / exploiting your behaviour. Ethical as in just being a tool that empowers you.
-
Infrastructure is medium of interaction. Whether systems, physical or social, the development has shifted almost entirely to private industry. Providing an ethical platform is an uphill battle.
-
Yes, I’m aware of the status quo; I just happen to disagree with it and I’m working to try and change it, uphill battle or no :)
-
Digital footprint awareness is a start. Ultimately infrastructure occurs on the grey border between public and private sectors. Grey refers to profit by infrastructure contractors which can undermine the ethics of the work.

Great. Makes more sense than the charity/volunteer suggestions I’ve heard before. But surely this will make most sense at an international level? What would you make of, say, the EU funding something like this?
-
I’d love to see that. Sadly, we have to democratise the EU first (especially the European Commission) and get them to care about more than just consumers and markets.

How can there be "ethical infrastructure" if taxation is theft?
