Studying war in a historic and critical context is one thing. This is akin to researching new weapons. I’d love to know who is behind the funding. Wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it was a company like King.

I don’t see “studying the potential bad applications” as part of the description. This reads like a research programme into developing those very techniques. In my experience, academia is rarely concerned about ethics when there’s funding to be had from industry.
