I’m not the one making money by profiling people and exploiting their behaviour here. And neither is it my responsibility to fix your unethical business model. That’s your responsibility. And it starts with understanding why it’s unethical and accepting responsibility.
-
So I suppose your blocker suggests that people give money to publications they want to support?
-
No. Again, it’s not my job to fix (or support) your unethical business model. It’s my job to protect the privacy of as many people as I can while encouraging alternatives that are not based on this toxic model of surveillance-based monetisation of people.

All that aside, it is Friday evening (at least here in Sweden) and while we may disagree on this – and I do hope that you will at least look into the trackers I mentioned and perhaps even raise this issue internally – here’s wishing you a lovely weekend.
-
… (Key missing point: it being Friday evening, I am now stepping away from the keyboard to have a glass of wine) :) Also, I realise it must not be easy to be caught up in what the industry has become. It’s not fair for writers, editors either. This business model screws us all.

Advertising taints print journalism in other ways - used to spread propaganda (marketing disguised as editorial), suppress adverse reporting
-
Indeed. Not ideal. Yet behavioural advertising takes it to a different level. The business model now is to try and create a digital copy of you that they own and to use that copy/simulation as a proxy to influence your future behaviour. I cringe at the thought of it.
