So... I take it you don't pay for journalism. Not by ads, and not by other means.
-
I gladly pay for journalism. I don’t pay for behavioural advertising.
-
Please be specific. Whom/how do you pay.
-
I buy traditional papers and magazines. Name me an online source that doesn’t use 3rd-party tracking & behavioural advertising and I will gladly consider paying for them too. What I will not support is
#SurveillanceCapitalism, which is what your publication is helping perpetuate -
Most traditional papers and magazines sell your information to marketers, but then you knew that.
-
Not so. I buy a paper from a store etc .. no tracking. I control whose looking over my shoulder. Quite simply online media needs to find a different model than surreptitiously harvesting people’s data.

Just curious; are there any third-party networks you do deem safe? In my experience a service like NewRelic can be quite handy for a site owner. Do you have a whitelist of acceptable services/alternatives next to you blacklist?
-
At this point, no. For the simple reason that – as far as I’m aware – none of these third-parties have algorithmic transparency or any notice of limitation of future use of the data. If you know of any that do & which can be auditing, I’d be interested in reviewing them.
