@DSMeu I'd take the ethics of the EC over the UK or US any day.

The European Commission isn’t known for its ethics. The closest we have to a democratic conscience in the EU is the EU Parliament.
-
Activities carried out under H2020 must comply with ethical principles and relevant national, EU and international legislation
-
Said principles on tech severely lacking: no mention of decentralised, zero-knowledge, interoperable, free/open See https://ind.ie/ethical-design
-
That's more about open source and diversity not so much about data protection and transparency which is what you meant right?
-
It’s exactly about protecting privacy/human rights. “Data protection” today is allowing the wolf the chicken coop but asking him to be nice.
-
What's the answer? More regulation, opt in not opt out? As consumers we rely on these companies to act in our best interest.

Some thoughts: https://ar.al/notes/encouraging-individual-sovereignty-and-a-healthy-commons … It’s the basis of the progressive tech policy we’re drafting at DiEM25: https://ar.al/notes/towards-an-internet-of-people-with-diem25 …

If it’s funded by EC as part of H2020 project, they take data protection and ethics very seriously on projects they fund :)
-
Given that they fund startups with business models based on gathering data that can then be sold to Google/FB, I respectfully disagree.
-
They’ve given our company funding and the data protection and ethics process was quite rigorous and very user centric which impressed me
-
Were any of these mentioned? * decentralised * zero-knowledge * interoperable * free/open Ethics in tech today doesn’t go much beyond PR.
-
I bow to your expertise in this area. Questions were specific to our product and the process felt well intended and thorough
