You think this is bad, wait until @Canonical have actually had their IPO (http://www.zdnet.com/article/canonical-starts-ipo-path/ …)

Plain Debian with GNOME?
How do we get hosting providers to switch?
CC @cloudscale_ch
Most server providers give you an option of Debian/cent already?
Hmm… I need to check mine, you’re right. I think I just have Ubuntu blindness. Might have to change my habits before anything else :)
Sure, we also offer Debian, CentOS, Fedora, Arch, Gentoo, ... Last tweet was referring to the underlaying infrastructure.
Wouldn’t that just be Debian?
Yeah, I guess you’re right. Time to give it a proper look :)
Most hosting provider also propose Debian, very good for servers, stable as hell. For workstation I recommend Linux Mint.
Thanks, Benjamin :)
I need to look into what (if anything) I’d be missing going from Ubuntu to Debian but yes, that’s an option.
well basically Ubuntu is a branch of Debian, so all the basics should be there..
For the desktop Mint is a no-bullshit Ubuntu derivative. Ubuntu Desktop has had ads for a long time now
Ubuntu had Amazon ads at one time, but removed them a while back. It was a bad idea which leaked metadata.
Inadvertently removed in Unity 8 it seems, it was a terrible idea.http://www.pcworld.com/article/2840401/ubuntus-unity-8-desktop-removes-the-amazon-search-spyware.html …
Maybe @Puri_sm would fit here?
I tried Ubuntu after looong break and it was still meh. Switched to Linux Mint and very pleased with it. "Ubuntu done right" as touted.
@Canonical @radix42 Trisuel is a fully free software fork of Ubuntu. You can download a live image onto a USB to try out. FOSS FTW! #freesw
