They would be platform agnostic, yes, and yes, they could be hosted on existing providers but we should encourage decentralisation there too

Indeed. As long as the system is interoperable, it won’t be locked into such platforms but could still utilise them if a provider wanted to.

Yah, exactly. I'm thinking a mastodon-like approach, with a standard API for cross app comms , but each server would be for just one person.

Each node could run the same open software with ever increasing functionality to replicate existing centralized services.
