Something that has crossed my mind more than once, but seems to be missed a lot of the time. EU is more than a bit hypocritcal there.

1) stop competing between countries 2) many things are better done at EU level. An EU foreign policy would have to be fairly virtuous.

No power of recall, no power to trigger referenda. Big is bad in terms of power. Local level works best for almost all things.

Who in Europe has power of recall of their government? Genuine question. But yes, subsidiarity is essential. Some things better at EU level
