the real question is, how can Apple keep up with it's services if it continue to do so (on device, encryption tech?)

I am afraid people will choose for best services/products, not for the best data protection, although those should go together

actually, that's completely false. They do. They just don't sync it back to the cloud and add it to "there machine"
