No, it would just mean that everyone had a more equal chance to get to safety, not just those who could afford it.https://twitter.com/nicklockwood/status/777436139615555584 …

With the right goal, Uber's algorithm could ensure that those in most danger were first to get to safety. Which would be nicer still.

Maximising shareholder value and profits quarter on quarter, alas, is not that goal (nor will it ever be).

@nicklockwood @Austerity_Sucks @cnbsec better approach in a disaster/emergency is to figure out a carpool mode to get more to safety

@nicklockwood that it costs more is a feature of reality (yes, supply and demand) and is not optional. The question is only who pays.

Women & children first!"... as people in danger at sea used to say. What soulless ghoul puts a 'surge price' on lifeboats...?

@Austerity_Sucks @cnbsec conversely, the surge might make some people choose other transport, freeing Ubers for those that need them.

@nicklockwood @Austerity_Sucks @cnbsec I think Uber already showed which outcome they'd go for in the Trolley problem. 😂
