most internships I've come across (US-based) are like this or worse.

-
So in other words "You'll be our free slave for a month and then maybe we'll hire you..... Maybe."
-
For a month? Most of them are like 4-6 months. I don't know how people are expected to live like that...but many do.
-
It seems to act as a restricting agent for who gets into 'cool tech' - only the financially privileged can afford that.
-
Silly because the next IT-guru could just as easily be from low income. Companies potentially lose the best talent
-
Absolutely but it's like the "cultural fit" argument all over again. People want to hire people just like them. It's awful.
-
"Good Guy arrogant old companies. Giving new talent so bad internships they force them to make better companies"? ;)
-
I think it's unfortunately a little more complicated than that. :(

@mpesce jeez. Internship or slavery? I’m glad Australia has laws requiring interns get paid in most circumstances.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I wish I had known this earlier. I would also add that minimum wage internships ($7.25/HR ) isn't worth it either.
