@GenKnoxx I see asking Muslim women to leave the house without a burka more akin to asking a western woman to leave the house topless.

I don’t even know how to reply to that so I’m going to remove myself from this conversation now. +

@GenKnoxx brainwashing is a hell of a thing -
but what happens when there is real choice, but a (large part of) society stands in opposition? What's that?
-
.
@tonylukasavage@aral I don't care what other Muslims say about covering. We must build/maintain free societies and then women can choose. -
the key is that women must be empowered to freely decide. Freedom, not restrictions, is what's required. And, TBH, ...
-
I'm entirely mystified by this thread. You cannot free people by restricting them. But yeah helping women leave is $$$
-
I agree with you on choice, and I disagree that anyone should be able to limit their choice.
-
it's tricky. I get it. But Americans seem to accept freedom of religion for everyone but Muslims. See pinned tweet.
@aral -
barking up the wrong tree there, I’m secular through and through. :)

I know, Aral, but there ARE those who choose coverings of different kinds. We must respect that. It's ok that we disagree here.
-
I assure you that most women in the US and Canada wearing burkas know they can leave their situations and stop wearing it. And...
-
if not, the solution isn't to oppose burkas (insert faith-y thing) but to have better education about programs to which they can flee.
-
Here's the deal: America is about our fundamental protected rights. Religion, privacy, press, speech. I won't suggest we compromise them.

That is a very good point, and one I never really considered before!
