I admire @aral's idealism, but it is difficult to convince most people that it's a good idea to be independent of Big Cloud on principle.

People living in nondemocratic countries who don't have freedom of speech have the biggest practical need for a distributed Facebook. @aral

I'm amazed that Facebook managed to convince so many corporations to advertise with http://facebook.com  URLs instead of their own. @aral

20 years ago, TV ads in the US ended with "AOL Keyword: Pepsi". Then they used http://pepsi.com . Now: http://facebook.com/pepsi . @aral

Good news for Facebook. Some big brands are so stupid about the Internet that their websites suck & their FB pages actually work. @aral

I picked Pepsi as a random example, typed the URLs into the tweet without checking them, and http://www.pepsi.com  is broken on iOS. @aral

@jhamby @aral Is it broken for everyone or do you have an ad blocker enabled that makes it show as a white-screen?

@magoon @aral you're right. I had an ad blocker enabled. I thought it was a Flash-only site but didn't try it with the ad blocker disabled.

.@magoon @aral yep, it was the ad blocker. http://www.pepsi.com  works great on iOS. I'm surprised it wasn't working for me in Twitter.

.@magoon @aral I was under the impression that Safari content blockers didn't apply to WebViews running in other apps. Works in Twitter now.

@jhamby Applies to Safari View Controllers, not to Web Views. Twitter’s app must be using the former (that’s good). +@magoon
