@scbirney Depends on their needs. Very different if they’re the target of state actors or a regular Jane or Joe. iPhone good for latter.

@aral Its tough because Apple's privacy stance is appealing but their lack of openness in regards to their system is less so.

@aral Google is making nearly all of its money with ads on websites. End-to-end-encryption doesn't even apply there. -
@suka_hiroaki Ads are a symptom. They’re not in the ad business, they’re in the getting to know you and monetising that insight business. -
@aral If your data is their business model they have to protect it. Against others for competitive reasons. Against govs for trust reasons. -
@suka_hiroaki Indeed. And yet it is their business model that means all the data is collected/centralised to begin with.
