Re: Error 53: does it just happen when fingerprint sensor’s been repaired? If so, understand reason but why brick? http://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/feb/05/error-53-apple-iphone-software-update-handset-worthless-third-party-repair …

@aral I can from a hardware security point understand the error 53 occurrence, fully bricking the device may however be overkill -
@drs_Andor Yeah, I can’t see how that would be the only way to deal with that specific edge case. -
@aral wonder if it would also show up if you delete all fingerprints first and then 3rd party repair it

@aral To protect customer data? What if law enforcement or criminals swaps the Touch ID sensor just to get to your data? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral looks like the TPM set up to nuke itself with all the keys/apple pay info that might get handed over if the touch id is compromisedThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral nvm, I just got to the part where they say it doesn’t kill the device instantly :/Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral Why? Because the user broke the sacred Apple covenant. Same as leavers not getting unsubscribed from iMessage. Punishment beatingsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral and considering that the TPM is built into the SoC, it kills the whole system.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
