If our species is to survive the Anthropocene, we must abandon the mass psychosis that is religion.

The topology of the Anthropocene must be distributed. Sustainable; w/out centres. No place for religion or monarchy in a distributed system.

Either we relegate our primitive, centralised structures to the history books, or they will relegate us to the same.

@aral religion should not be privileged. Like every other idea it should stand or fall on its own meritsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral Since the Enlightenment, we've experienced the falling away of tradition, while the idea of the domination of reason over nature 1/6 -
flourished. This selfreflexive modernity not only suffers from unintended and unforseen side effects (e.g. climate change, nature 2/6
-
fighting back), but also from an identity crisis. No longer is our identity, whether personal or cultural, based on a story or heritage 3/6
-
or in any way bound by location. Instead we tell different stories about ourselves in the different economic spheres we operate. 4/6
-
This is our modern freedom, which in essence is a ground for indifference towards each other. The weakness of modern liberal democracy 5/6
-
is that it only requires us to obey the law, there is no longer a moral backbone to society. This is something that religion could offer. 6
