So Comodo only issues Extended Validation (aka green bar) certs to companies, not individuals. We’re already 2nd-class citizens on the Net.
@ChristopherRaa How do we validate the identity of individuals normally? How about passport details, as an easy way, or even CC details.

@aral Secret things like CC details wouldn't work - they'd appear in subject like your Companies House number does.pic.twitter.com/szPJAmVPMB
-
@aral NI number etc would work though. And you're right, the standard should be able to deal with that. -
@mikemaccana Doesn't quite solve it though. Still the problem of validating that the requestor is the same person as the docs claim.@aral -
@ChristopherRaa of course. NI number would be x509 subject of cert. Passport, bills etc would be verification.@aral -
@mikemaccana Sorry, I'm not following.. Verification by something that I can pick up from someone's mailbox? Have I misunderstood?@aral -
@ChristopherRaa only for verifying use of the address, yeah. Not for identity. And agreed, substandard.@aral -
@mikemaccana (1/2) What would be cool was if there was key-sharing between ppl and gov, and you could get an archive encrypted ...@aral

@aral ..and perhaps that is why it is not offered. Because of the insane costs associated with getting such verification performed.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral Think you'd need to get an OK on validity of said document from the government, and a verification that the applicant is the holder.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
