@aral How do you propose we validate identity of individuals?

@ChristopherRaa How do we validate the identity of individuals normally? How about passport details, as an easy way, or even CC details. -
@aral Secret things like CC details wouldn't work - they'd appear in subject like your Companies House number does.pic.twitter.com/szPJAmVPMB

@aral NI number etc would work though. And you're right, the standard should be able to deal with that. -
@mikemaccana Doesn't quite solve it though. Still the problem of validating that the requestor is the same person as the docs claim.@aral -
@ChristopherRaa of course. NI number would be x509 subject of cert. Passport, bills etc would be verification.@aral -
@mikemaccana Sorry, I'm not following.. Verification by something that I can pick up from someone's mailbox? Have I misunderstood?@aral -
@ChristopherRaa only for verifying use of the address, yeah. Not for identity. And agreed, substandard.@aral - 1 more reply

@aral We need SSL for the people. https://letsencrypt.org/ is a good start, though. :)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral I thought all SSL providers did that. Agree with you though. That said, they're prohibitively expensive anyway. That's the main issue.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
