      @debcha @aral It really is a getting-hung-up-on-details thing, but people are weird about their gut feelings about what has agency or not.

      @debcha @aral Personally I take the view that if the code has agency, it got it entirely from the programmer, so it's a no-op reduction.

      @debcha @aral … about the notion of *neutrality*? Maybe "biased/unbiased" is closer? A coin can be biased, as can an algorithm.
