The main disagreement people had with my privacy comments earlier is that I didn't go far enough: "There is no privacy. Period."

@zcichy There’s definitely privacy. To prove it exists, try to walk into either Google, Inc. or NSA headquarters with a video camera.

@aral @zcichy that's not privacy. That's security: national state secrets. And trade secrets. Completely different

@eric_analytics @zcichy No, security is how/how well they’re protected. Privacy is the belief that they should be protected to begin with.

@aral @zcichy you're splitting hairs: Legal speak companies & governments call their sensitive info as secrets: state secrets, trade secrets

@eric_analytics @zcichy It’s a very important hair to split as it’s in the interests of those who would deny you privacy to conflate them.

@eric_analytics @zcichy Key point is governments and corporations are afforded secrets/privacy and we are not.

@aral @zcichy are afforded. The burden of keeping information secret is on the holder of the information. Same w governments & corporations

@eric_analytics @zcichy This isn’t the Wild West. We have a framework of laws that protect human rights. They need strengthening.

@aral @zcichy have fun. But do a quick search of PII and laws protecting it. Minors under 13 especially. Laws governing SSN

@aral @zcichy then you'd realize. There are plenty of laws. Corporations. Receive no automatic protections nor enforcement.
