Irony: Mozilla (who get 90% of their revenue from Google) using the word “independent” to describe themselves. https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/11/03/the-first-browser-dedicated-to-developers-is-coming/ …

@aral My question to that statement would be what browser can you use right now? -
@ChrisChinch Firefox. Google deal is not an investment, so it doesn't mandate the mission. Mozilla is still indepedent.@aral -
.
@comzeradd Let me pay 90% of your salary and then try to convince people I hold no sway on your actions. +@ChrisChinch -
@aral If I have a pre-defined mission you can pay me as much as you like.@ChrisChinch

@aral (I don't know much about it, but I never thought of it as Google having undue influence, even if they are M's sugar daddy.) -
@kwinkunks You’re a company & I pay you ~$270M (~90% of your revenue). I decide not to pay you that again next time. What happens to you? -
@aral Fair enough, good point, but 'deciding not to pay' would presumably mean a (larger) loss of revenue for Google; it's not a donation.

@aral I support what you're doing with ind.ie. I think you're wrong with Mozilla though -
@aral mozilla is many things, the company being just one. I'm an indie mozilla dev. I can hack the source and implement my own agenda. -
@alessandrod Indeed — and that’s the great thing about open source. However, I don’t like the $270M+ whitewashing project side of it. -
@aral you know the scheme predates google being evil and it was instrumental in taking the web where it's today -
@aral and you know mozilla is trying to find alternative income channels -
@aral so while I agree with your stance on FxOS (imo a lost opportunity), blaming mozilla for the $ it gets from GOOG feels like a low blow

@aral That money is from royalties, though, right? I mean, Google happens to be their biggest customer? They seem to act independently, no?Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
