@aral you’re so wrong, the removable SIM is what prevents carrier lock in and promoted user choice

@sammachin What if we replaced it w an open standard in software? UX nightmare of sticking a piece of plastic in yr phone like an animal… :) -
@aral that won’t work though, SIMs separate the access token from the device in a way users understand -
@sammachin Ideal UX: I turn on my phone, pick carrier. Get crap service. Go into settings. Switch carrier. Instantly. Billing, everything. -
@aral Meanwhile in the real world..... can’t explain in 140chars but am writing a blog post about this -
@sammachin Shoot me a link when you’re done; look forward to reading it :) Appreciate your thoughts. -
@aral one of the few areas where I disagree with you. It's a "church & state" separation which is more important than day-to-day UX. -
@edent But convenience will always trump. Are we ready when it does. Do we have an open standard or lock-in? - 1 more reply

@aral@evankirstel@njyx they have been pushing for ages but the carriers have been resisting until now, they like it to be hard to switchThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral Actual “no long-term commitments” and being able to change the provider with a button click sounds empowering instead of repressing.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
