@aral And they send your items through the X-ray while you wait.
Blatant, effective peer pressuring. Like high school all over again.

@fictionism Yep. Had that happen. “Can you please collect my stuff?” “No, sorry, I can’t leave this spot”

@aral That opt-out is now an option in the UK is news to me. Maybe few opt-out because no-one knows it’s possible. -
@paulanthonywils I didn’t ask if it was an option; I simply informed them that I was opting out :)

@aral the guy at Schiphol got very suspicious of me when I asked. Told me unless I had serious medical reason, I couldn't. -
@TheoLietaert That’s ridiculous. My experience is Netherlands wasn’t great; walked through only to realise what it was. Told off the guy. -
@aral He relented after I kept refusing. Maybe it was because the flight was headed to the US. Sorry to hear about your experience. :/

@aral Last time I opted out at SFO, I got heckled by other travelers in line while security made me wait 10 min for the pat down.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral you mean you got a choice? I thought getting patted down was standard practice when you have a funny sounding name. And a tan.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@aral I always opt out. In Canada and Schiphol that just meant skipping the scanner. Everyone got a patdown, even if they went through.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
