@RealBenGilbert @aral Makes the whole Google is spying on us a bit moot . I trust Google more than the US government tbh.
@MortenJolnas @RealBenGilbert Quite the contrary: if they weren’t spying on us, there would be very little to ask for.

@aral@RealBenGilbert I suppose you are correct. But aren't all the companies collecting this data? It's just a matter of how they use it -
@MortenJolnas
@RealBenGilbert Not all companies and not all collecting the same way. Some use encryption and don’t hold the private keys. -
@aral@RealBenGilbert Good point. So eesentially data from Apple is anonymized even to Apple, but to Google it isn't thus useful for US gov. -
@MortenJolnas
@RealBenGilbert Not anonymised; inaccessible (big difference) :) -
@aral@RealBenGilbert But is it truly inaccessible? I mean if the private key is stored on yourt iphone technically they still control it?

@aral@RealBenGilbert (Re: The Apple is innocent(ish) posts earlier) They still have the data - just don't use it for adds? -
@MortenJolnas
@RealBenGilbert They don’t have to; not their business model. And Cook mentioned they don’t have the keys for iMessage for eg.
