@aral the only people the gpl damages now are other OSS projects.
It was necessary at the time but we are beyond that now

@dhigit9 We are not beyond freedom. I hope we never are. -
@aral so do you think gpl is the better license to start a project on today? -
@dhigit9 Depends on the project and your goals. For a project that could be an important alternative OS for protecting freedom, yes :) -
@aral ok I can see the driver :) Just wanted to be sure you knew that folks are starting to see gpl as a barrier#my2penniesworth

@aral It's compatible with GPLv3 going Apache -> GPL but not the other way due to how ASF license things. It’s a reasonable license for it. -
@LewisCowper Would be sad to see corporations create closed versions of it if it gains tracktion. GPL would protect from that.

@aral MIT/BSD/Apache is what I call freedom. GPL has a definition of freedom that I find questionable.#philisophicaldifferences -
@tcurdt MIT/BSD, to quote Bodil, is free as in labour. Makes sense for certain things (libraries). Not so for an open OS. -
@aral maybe it's philosophical but I don't see why they make less sense for an OS (while true - MIT and friends are more important for libs)

@aral So apparently the OS is the new CMS: https://github.com/NodeOS (MIT, btw. So even less restrictive.)Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
