Twitter is a closed silo that we all helped build for Twitter, Inc., and now we’re pretty much stuck with it.

(Sure, another venture capital backed free service could potentially replace it someday but it will do so with more of the same.)

(But if we want a public sphere that can compete, it is going to need substantial subsidy and international scope to compete.)

Just remember all that before you go helping the next venture-capital-backed free service of the month become a monopoly by patronising it.
