RT @PCAdvisor: Facebook Messenger isn't evil and it's not about to spy on you http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/social-networks/3537202/facebook-messenger-app-isnt-evil-its-not-about-spy-on-you/ … Wow. Wow. Wow. “Tech press” as PR.
@MattJEgan Are you serious? :) Anonymous data gathering? How is over 1 billion user accounts with most personal details *anonymous*?

@aral so don't use Facebook. If you are giving up all your details, it seems odd to feel that Facebook is 'spying' on you... -
@MattJEgan Love it or leave it isn’t an acceptable choice to be left with when nearly all services share the same business model. -
@aral again: not here to defend Facebook. At all. But 'spying' is secretly stealing info, not willingly offering up your data to the spy... -
@MattJEgan Spy also means to “observe (someone) furtively” or “keep under surveillance/observation” — fits that definition :) -
@aral sure. I guess it's the level to which the behaviour is 'furtive' that is questionable. But again: defending my colleague not Facebook!

@aral ...I'm not here to defend Facebook (or Google, or Twitter...) but I will defend my author who wrote an honest, interesting article. -
@MattJEgan Well either your author is ignorant of the privacy concerns or wilfully negligent in not mentioning them. Either way, not great. -
@aral I disagree, but I'll take the accusation of negligence over the insuation of improperly disguised 'PR' every say of the week!
