…That’s not the problem. The problem isn’t a wolf acting like a wolf. It’s us not understanding that it’s a wolf and thinking it’s a sheep.

…The problem is that we have entrusted our freedom of speech and democracy to private spaces and private corporations. That needs fixing.

@aral@valeriabet That won't ever change. That's like expecting all malls to be replaced by community owned markets. Won't happen. -
@pranesh_prakash@aral That is what I call a shower of realism -
@valeriabet@aral Uproar isn't: omg Facebook *can* censor. (that'd be foolish, as you point out.) It's abt Facebook *is* censoring this. -
@valeriabet@aral Facebook's job is to make money and to not get into legal trouble while doing so. Censorship doesn't necessarily help.

@aral@johnantoni@mindcrash I am on http://sonic.net and your URL is 404. -
@dannyman Your ISP is likely censoring you. Could you try again via the Tor Browser? https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en …@aral@johnantoni

@aral@mindcrash@michielbdejong Facebook censors pictures of extreme violence (like e.g. dead bodies), no matter who posts them. -
@aral@mindcrash@michielbdejong They can do it faster the more prominent the poster is, due to earlier/more user reports.
