        .@aral DDG is OK, but it's still based in US, and so subject to NSA orders; https://startpage.com/  is based in NL, maybe somewhat safer

        @glynmoody I still have my doubts about StartPage’s ‘enhanced by Google’ model. DDG is building an alternative that it independent.

        @aral indeed; but I'm not really sure why that's an advantage. doesn't it make it much easier for NSA to apply pressure/doctor results?

        @aral DDG is fun (you're late to the party!) but the tracking won't stop. You need something that blocks the Google Analytics scriptlets.

        @aral switched to Firefox with duckduckgo as default search engine over the break: works great. Also switching to 1Password.
